JL Schneider's marvelous and thoughtful essay was the winner of the 2015 Palooka Press Chapbook Contest. JL is a carpenter and adjunct professor of English at a small community college in Upstate New York. Winner of the 2015 Harpur Palate Nonfiction Contest, his essays have also appeared in Boulevard, Solstice Magazine, Southeast Review, and Mochila Review. He was nominated for a Pushcart Prize for fiction in 2013 and for nonfiction in 2014. His poetry collection It’s Strange Here was published by Vine Leaves Press.
